TRADE: Yankees Deal Former All-Star & Gold Glover To Cincinnati Reds

The New York Yankees have sent former All-Star and Gold Glove catcher Jose Trevino to the Cincinnati Reds while adding some serious heat to their bullpen, acquiring flamethrower Fernando Cruz.

Jose Trevino was an All-Star for the Yanks in 2022, catching a career-high 115 games and hitting 11 home runs while at the same winning the Gold Glove for his defense behind the plate. He also earned the Platinum Glove Award that year.

But 2023 & '24 weren't as kind to Trevino, as he couldn't hit above .215, and his OPS hovered in the high .500s and low .600s.

The Reds, though, had a need for a backup backstop behind starter Tyler Stephenson, and Trevino's defense will be a nice complement to Stephenson's offense.

Fernando Cruz, 34, is a late-bloomer in the majors, only arriving in 2022. He's demonstrated a live arm, however, striking out a whopping 14 batters per nine over his three seasons, while posting a league-average ERA+ of 100. He's only allowed batters a .209 average.

Jackson, 25, is a glove-first catcher, as he has only a .132/.224/.232 slash line in 340 plate appearances for four different teams across parts of five seasons.
