SIGNING: Paul Goldschmidt Moves To American League
7-time All-Star and 4-time Gold Glover at first base Paul Goldschmidt had plenty of interest on the Free Agent market despite his recent decline. Now, the 37-year-old has chosen his 2025 destination, signing with the New York Yankees.
First baseman Paul Goldschmidt and the New York Yankees are in agreement on a one-year, $12.5 million contract, sources tell ESPN. Goldschmidt adds a strong veteran bat to deepen the Yankees’ lineup. First on the news was @JackCurryYES.

It's a one year, $12.5 million contract for Goldschmidt, who leaves the St. Louis Cardinals after six seasons, which featured an MVP award in 2022.
It has been a bit of a drop off in each season since then, however, as he finished with 22 HR, 65 RBIs and career lows with a .716 OPS and a 98 OPS+ last season, his first time below the MLB average in a star studded career spanning 14 years.
Goldschmidt holds impressive career marks of a .289 average, along with an .892 OPS and a 139 OPS+.
He’ll add a great leadership presence as well as strong defence at first base for the Yankees, who haven’t gotten a lot of production out of the position in recent seasons.
The move continues the Yankees' aggressive bounce back after losing the Juan Soto sweepstakes. They’ve since added ace starting pitcher Max Fried on a long-term deal, top closer Devin Williams in a trade, and former MVP Cody Bellinger in another trade. Now Goldy joins the Bronx Bombers as well.:
