SIGNING: Christian Walker Finds New Home in Free Agency

One of the biggest offensive pieces on the free agent market has found a new home, as former Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Christian Walker has inked a three-year, $60 million contract with the Houston Astros.

The Astros, after trading away young superstar Kyle Tucker, and apparently not being able to meet Alex Bregman's contract demands, have salvaged something from this offseason so far with the signing of Walker.

First base was a huge void for Houston last season, as they were forced to release former MVP Jose Abreu after his performance fell off a cliff. Walker will be a huge upgrade and offer leadership as well.

The 33-year-old has been one of the most consistent offensive performers in the majors at first base over the last three years, averaging nearly 32 home runs and 94 RBIs over that time with an .812 OPS and a 123 OPS+, while securing three straight Gold Gloves at first.

The Walker signing almost assuredly signals the end of Bregman's time in Houston, as the Astros have already acquired another third baseman in Isaac Paredes in the Tucker trade. And while he could have been shuffled to first if Bregman had re-signed, the Walker addition puts the kibosh on that.
