Report: Phillies Make Blockbuster Trade Offer To Mariners

The Philadelphia Phillies have reportedly approached the Seattle Mariners with a trade proposal centered around All-Star third baseman Alec Bohm, according to multiple sources.

The Mariners, seeking to upgrade at third base after parting ways with Josh Rojas, have expressed interest in Bohm, who hit .280 with 15 home runs, 44 doubles, and 97 RBIs during a standout 2024 season.

However, Philadelphia’s steep asking price—reportedly one of Seattle’s top pitchers, Logan Gilbert or George Kirby—has given the Mariners pause.

While Bohm’s two remaining years of arbitration control and affordability (projected at $8 million for 2025) add to his appeal, his late-season struggles and disappointing postseason performance have tempered his trade value.

For the Phillies, trading Bohm represents an opportunity to revamp their roster after a disappointing postseason exit.

Moving their third baseman would create room to pursue free-agent star Alex Bregman, providing a potential offensive and defensive upgrade at the hot corner.

“The Phillies mean business,” noted Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. “They’re not just aiming to dominate the regular season—they want championships, and trading Bohm could be a significant step toward achieving that.”

Bohm’s consistent production and team-friendly contract make him a valuable trade chip, but Philadelphia appears intent on leveraging him for a major return to address broader team needs.

As David Schoenfield of ESPN pointed out, Seattle may prefer to spread its resources across multiple upgrades rather than parting with a top-tier pitcher.

With the MLB Winter Meetings approaching, both teams have room to revisit discussions, though their hesitance to compromise on priorities could push the Mariners to explore alternative solutions for their infield needs.
