Report: Insider Reveals Team That Has "Very Good Chance" Of Landing Corbin Burnes

Insider Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports that the San Francisco Giants are strong contenders to land star right-hander Corbin Burnes, with some sources suggesting they may even have the edge in the race for the 2021 NL Cy Young winner.

Giants President of Baseball Operations Buster Posey recently met with Burnes’ agent, Scott Boras, signaling the team’s serious intent to sign the ace.

Burnes, a California native, may find the appeal of pitching close to home and the Giants’ aggressive offseason moves, including the signing of former teammate Willy Adames to a seven-year, $182 million deal, too compelling to resist.

Burnes is considered the top starting pitcher on the market, especially after Max Fried and Garrett Crochet were acquired by the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox, respectively.

While the Blue Jays remain a strong competitor, insiders note that the Giants’ proactive recruitment efforts and Burnes’ ties to California make them "heavy favorites."

Adames, during his introductory press conference, expressed his eagerness to reunite with Burnes, saying, “I’m calling Corbin Burnes, and we’re going to win!”

Adding Burnes would provide a massive boost to a Giants rotation that struggled with injuries and inconsistency last season, finishing 18th in ERA and 29th in innings pitched.

Pairing Burnes with Logan Webb at the top of the rotation would significantly strengthen San Francisco’s chances in the competitive NL West.

With Posey personally leading the recruitment and the organization already investing heavily to compete, the Giants are making a strong case to secure Burnes as they aim for postseason success.
