Report: Blue Jays Making "Significant Push" For Corbin Burnes

The Toronto Blue Jays have made a significant push in their pursuit of free-agent ace Corbin Burnes, reportedly holding an in-person meeting with the four-time All-Star and 2021 Cy Young Award winner.

According to MLB Network’s Jon Morosi, the meeting took place in the lead-up to the Winter Meetings, signaling Toronto’s serious intent to add a top-tier arm to their rotation.

Burnes, coming off an impressive season with the Baltimore Orioles where he posted a 2.92 ERA across 32 starts, continues to solidify his reputation as one of the most reliable pitchers in the league.

With four consecutive All-Star appearances and a track record of durability, Burnes is expected to command a long-term deal exceeding $180 million, potentially surpassing Blake Snell’s recent five-year, $182 million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Adding Burnes would transform the Blue Jays’ already strong rotation, which features Kevin Gausman, Chris Bassitt, and José Berríos.

His consistent performance and ability to handle a heavy workload make him a valuable addition as Toronto prepares for the potential departures of stars like Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette after 2025.

“Burnes has been consistently healthy,” said an insider, pointing to his streak of at least 193 innings pitched over the past three seasons.

His presence would not only bolster the team’s competitiveness in the AL East but also provide long-term stability at the top of their rotation.

The team is reportedly exploring multiple avenues, including potential signings of Juan Soto and international sensation Roki Sasaki.

If finalized, the signing would be a statement move that sets Toronto apart in a competitive free-agent market.
