MLB Rumors: Yankees Eyeing Two Bullpen Arms

The New York Yankees are turning their attention to left-handed relievers Andrew Chafin and Tim Hill as they look to strengthen their bullpen for the 2025 season.

According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, “Andrew Chafin is high on the Yankees’ list of lefty pen targets. Tim Hill is, too.”

With their current bullpen featuring only right-handed arms and a lack of left-handed depth across the roster outside of starters Max Fried and Carlos Rodón, adding experienced southpaws has become a pressing need for the Yankees.

Chafin, 34, brings a proven track record of durability and effectiveness, posting a 3.51 ERA in 2024 across 62 appearances for the Detroit Tigers and Texas Rangers.

His ability to generate strikeouts, with a 28% strikeout rate over the past three seasons, makes him a strong candidate for middle-inning relief.

Hill, also 34, is familiar to the Yankees after joining them during the 2024 postseason and delivering a stellar 1.08 ERA over 10 appearances. His 3.36 ERA across 67 regular-season innings further demonstrates his reliability in high-pressure situations.

Having already made major moves this offseason, including the acquisitions of Max Fried, Paul Goldschmidt, Cody Bellinger, and Devin Williams, the Yankees view Chafin and Hill as cost-effective options to balance their bullpen.

While neither signing would be a blockbuster, the addition of a dependable left-handed reliever is seen as essential to rounding out a roster built to make a deep run.
