MLB Rumors: 3 Teams Eyeing Trade For Luis Castillo

Seattle Mariners ace Luis Castillo has become one of the most sought-after players on the trade market this offseason, drawing significant interest from the Chicago Cubs, Boston Red Sox, Baltimore Orioles, and New York Mets.

A three-time All-Star, Castillo posted an 11-12 record with a 3.64 ERA over 175.1 innings in 2024, cementing his reputation as a reliable frontline starter.

Under contract through 2027 with a $25 million vesting option for 2028, Castillo’s durability, consistency, and relatively affordable deal have made him a prime target for teams looking to bolster their rotations.

Interest in Castillo has ramped up following the New York Yankees’ signing of Max Fried to an eight-year, $218 million contract, with one source calling Castillo a “cost-effective alternative.”

According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the Cubs, fresh off acquiring Kyle Tucker, are aggressively pursuing Castillo to anchor their rotation.

Meanwhile, the Red Sox are looking to add another starter to pair with Garrett Crochet, the Orioles need to replace Corbin Burnes, and the Mets view Castillo as a key addition alongside Kodai Senga as they revamp their roster after acquiring Juan Soto.

Despite the interest, the Mariners are only willing to trade Castillo for a significant return that improves their roster, particularly given their limited pitching depth.

Additionally, Castillo’s full no-trade clause gives him control over his destination, complicating negotiations.

“Seattle’s position is simple: We’ll do it, but only if the return makes the team better,” Rosenthal reported.
