MLB Free Agent Rumors: 6 Closers Remain on the Market
The New York Yankees landed the biggest reliever on the trade market, securing Devin Williams from the Milwaukee Brewers in a steal of a deal. In free agency, only Aroldis Chapman, Jordan Romano and Clay Holmes (converting to starter) have been signed.
For teams still in the market for a bullpen boost, there are plenty of names still out there. Let's have a look at six free agent closers or high-leverage relievers still available.
Tanner Scott
This is the biggest name of the bunch. The All-Star posted 41 saves with a 1.75 ERA and 10.5 K/9. He was in the 100th percentile in limiting exit velocity and the 99th in limiting Hard-Hit %. Insider Robert Murray figures the LA Dodgers are the frontrunner. "I think Scott is the natural pivot point here for the Dodgers. It makes a ton of sense to me, they’ve got the funds to do it."
Kirby Yates
The 37-year-old had a monster comeback season, posting 33 saves for the Texas Rangers with a ridiculous 1.17 ERA. He actually held batters to an insane .113 average.
Carlos Estevez
One of two big names out of the Philadelphia Phillies bullpen on this list, he collected 26 saves this past season with a 2.45 ERA and an 0.90 WHIP. The Phils still want to bring him back, while the Toronto Blue Jays and Chicago Cubs are other teams that could be in on Estevez.
Jeff Hoffman
The other Phillies high-leverage arm on the market, the 31-year-old's first year as a top-notch end-of-game arm saw him earn an All-Star nod, nabbing 10 saves with a 2.17 ERA and 12.1 K/9.
Kenley Jansen
The 37-year-old was still doing it at the back end of games for the Boston Red Sox in 2024, posting 27 saves with a 3.29 ERA and 10.2 K/9. It doesn't seem like he'll be back in Boston, however.
Paul Sewald
An injury-plagued season left Sewald with just 39 innings pitched, and 16 saves for the Arizona Diamondbacks.
