FREE AGENT SIGNING: Yankees Former All-Star Gleyber Torres Leaves the Bronx

After spending the first seven years of his major league career with the New York Yankees, middle infielder Gleyber Torres has left the Bronx in free agency, signing a one-year, $15 million deal with the Detroit Tigers.

The Tigers needed to add a right-handed batter to their lefty-heavy lineup, and Torres will fill that need, as well as a hole at either second base or shortstop.

The 28-year-old had a bit of a pedestrian season in 2024, compared to other years, with an overall slash line of .257/.330/.378 with 15 homers. But he picked it up big-time down the stretch for the Yanks, slashing .306/.375/.418 over the final two months of the campaign.

Overall, in his seven seasons, he has a .265/.334/.441 line with a .765 OPS, 138 HR and 441 RBIs.

Torres could slot in either at 2B, if the Tigers want to slide youngster Colt Keith over to 1B, or at SS, where Javy Baez is a huge question mark coming off hip surgery (and three absolutely dreadful seasons in Detroit).

The Tigers, however, might not be done yet, as free agent Alex Bregman is still on their radar as well.
