3 Most Likely Non-Bronx Landing Spots for 7-Time All-Star Paul Goldschmidt

Paul Goldschmidt is only two years removed from an MVP award, but he is nowhere near that player anymore, now at the age of 37. Nevertheless, the 7-time All-Star and 4-time Gold Glover at first base has plenty of interest on the free agent market.

This all comes despite the fact that Goldschmidt's numbers across the board declined for the third straight year, as he finished with 22 HR, 65 RBIs and career lows with a .716 OPS and a 98 OPS+, his first time below the MLB average.

According to insider Bob Nightengale of USA Today, three teams will vie for the veteran's services, in addition to the Yankees.

Let's have a look at those potential landing spots:

Seattle Mariners

The M's had a mundane season out of their first basemen in 2024, and it's one of the spots they're looking to upgrade this winter. But with Christian Walker now off the board, and Pete Alonso seemingly out of their price range, the free agent field has been narrowed significantly for the Mariners. Goldschmidt is on their radar, though they could also look to the trade market to try to fill that need.

San Francisco Giants

The Giants finally had a big breakthrough on the free agent market, after years of trying. Perhaps the recent signing of Willy Adames opens up the floodgates... or at least a trickle of other free agents seriously considering them. They had a dreadful year out of their first basemen in 2024, finishing near the bottom of baseball in slugging and home runs, and the bottom third in most other offensive categories. It's unclear how much Goldy can actually help them, especially going to another tough ballpark for hitters.

Washington Nationals

The Nats are a team on the rise, with plenty of young talent scattered across the roster. They'd be looking at Goldschmidt as a team leader, a veteran to help show the kids how to win.
