Top 5 Teams' Betting Odds To Land Juan Soto in Free Agency
Half the league has already checked in on him, but only one will win the Juan Soto Sweepstakes, as for the second offseason in a row, we could be seeing a $700 million contract handed out in free agency.
The superstar 26-year-old, fresh off losing the World Series with the New York Yankees, has already said that he is open to "all 30 teams", so let the bidding war begin.
DraftKings has the odds posted for which team will land Soto, and with a bit of movement in the 12 hours since they were posted, it breaks down like this, as of Friday afternoon:
- New York Yankees -170 (62.96%)
- New York Mets +200 (33.33%)
- LA Dodgers +700
- Chicago Cubs +1500
- Toronto Blue Jays +1500
According to Jon Heyman in the New York Post, the Yankees' odds have slipped in the opening hours of betting, from -225 and a 69+% chance, down to a 62+% chance. This is likely due to his comments immediately after the World Series.
The Mets, on the other hand, have seen their chances move in a positive direction, starting at +360 (21%) and going up substantially, to over 33%.
The Dodgers, the team that handed out the $700M to Shohei Ohtani last winter, are at +700 (ironically) to do the same again this offseason, for Soto. That's actually decreased a tick from the +650 they opened at.
The Cubs have moved ahead of the Jays into 4th. Chicago is known to be desperate to improve their offense for 2025, while Toronto flirted with a trade for Soto last winter (or more likely were used by the San Diego Padres to secure a better return from the Yankees).
Soto batted .327 with an 1.102 OPS in the postseason for the Bronx Bombers, with 4 HR and 9 RBIs in 14 games, after posting a .988 OPS in the regular season in Pinstripes, with a career-best 41 HRs and 109 RBIs.
