Top 3 Bargain-Bin Free Agent Pitchers

While all the free agent attention in the pitching market this offseason is on the likes of Corbin Burnes, Blake Snell and Japanese phenom Roki Sasaki, there are a number of solid hurlers who won't break the break and who could contribute to teams looking for another great piece for the bullpen.

With that, we look at the Top 3 "Bargain-Bin" Free Agent Pitchers this winter:

David Robertson

Despite his age (39), Robertson remains a top notch reliever for high-leverage or closing situations. He owns a 2.92 ERA over the past four seasons with 40 saves with 11.5 strikeouts per nine innings. He pitched a whopping 72 innings for the Texas Rangers in 2024 allowing a mere .202 batting average against, with a 3.00 ERA. It might be hard to call his $11M contract from 2024 "bargain bin", but in this day and age, a one-year deal for a proven veteran bullpen arm in the $10 million range is palatable.

Paul Sewald

He had an injury-racked campaign in 2024, but from 2021 through 2023, Sewald had a 2.95 ERA with 256 strikeouts in 189 innings along with 65 saves for the Seattle Mariners and Arizona Diamondbacks. He added another 16 close-outs this season, but his ERA slipped to 4.13 due to oblique and neck injuries. He's still just 34 and could have a bounce-back season, likely for less than the $7.5M he earned this past year.

AJ Minter

He had August hip surgery, but before that posted a 2.62 ERA and 35 strikeouts in 34 innings for the Atlanta Braves. That was the 5th straight season of solid numbers for the set-up man who is still just 31. He has a career 3.28 ERA while striking out 10.9 batters per nine, and keeping the walks in check. The surgery could scare off some, but that will only make his price more tenable. Could be a low-risk, high-upside get for some team's bullpen.
