Rockies Could Finally Be Ready to Part With All-Star in Trade

Every year at the trade deadline, the Colorado Rockies refuse to part with a player who has great trade value, even though they're clearly not in any position to make a playoff run. They've done it with CJ Cron, and they've done it with Elias Diaz and Daniel Bard as well, among others.

They did it again this year with second baseman Brendan Rodgers, who was batting in the .280s in early July while playing fairly solid defense at 2B. He was in demand by certain teams as the deadline approached. But he wound up staying in Colorado, and went on a massive run in August with six home runs, a .330 average and a .936 OPS, which could have helped a potential playoff team tremendously.

As for the Rockies, they wound up in their usual 100-loss territory, in last place, perhaps finally slapping them with the dose of reality they need.  According to insider Jeff Passan, the Rockies are actually open to moving the 28-year-old infielder.

Overall, the Rockies may have missed out on another opportunity to sell, however, as Rodgers' numbers went down the tube in September and he finished the season with just a 94 OPS+ (6% below league average). And on his career, he owns a 90 OPS+.

The return is unlikely to be as nice as it could have been at the deadline when teams are more desperate trying to get into or stay in playoff position.
