Report: Juan Soto "Impressed" After Meeting With AL Team

Juan Soto, the top free agent of the offseason, met with Boston Red Sox officials for a three-hour meeting in Southern California on Thursday night that left a strong impression on both sides.

The Red Sox contingent included team president Sam Kennedy, chairman Tom Werner, chief baseball officer Craig Breslow, and manager Alex Cora, along with Soto’s agent, Scott Boras.

Boston presented its vision for the future, highlighting its commitment to winning, a promising pipeline of young talent, and the franchise's deep connection to Dominican stars like David Ortiz, Manny Ramirez, and Pedro Martinez.

A video celebrating this legacy resonated with Soto, who was reportedly “impressed” and left with a favorable view of the organization. “It’s about proving we’re committed to winning,” a team source said of the meeting’s purpose.

While no financial terms were discussed, the meeting showed the Red Sox’s serious intent to pursue Soto as they aim to return to contention after missing the playoffs in five of the last six seasons.

Expected to command a deal exceeding $500 million, Soto, 26, represents a transformational signing for any team. Boston outlined plans to build around Rafael Devers and its emerging core while addressing roster gaps, signaling a shift from its recent cautious spending.

“Everybody knows what we need,” Devers said earlier this year, reflecting the desire for a marquee acquisition to reenergize the team and its fanbase.

Soto, who hit .288 with a career-high 41 home runs for the Yankees last season, is also meeting with teams like the New York Mets, Toronto Blue Jays, and Los Angeles Dodgers.

However, Boston’s presentation stood out as a significant step toward reigniting its competitive edge. Pairing Soto with Devers would create the team’s most potent offensive duo since Ortiz and Ramirez.
