Noah Syndergaard Loses A Lot Of Weight, Eyeing MLB Comeback

Former All-Star pitcher Noah Syndergaard is set on making an MLB comeback in 2025 after taking a year off to focus on physical and mental preparation.

Known for his blazing fastball during his New York Mets tenure, the 32-year-old has transformed his body, shedding 30 pounds to reach 235 in an effort to boost his endurance and regain some of the agility he lost following a 2020 Tommy John surgery.

In his last MLB stint with the Cleveland Guardians and Los Angeles Dodgers, Syndergaard struggled, posting a 6.50 ERA over 88.2 innings as his once-triple-digit fastball dropped to around 92 mph.

Reflecting on the challenges he’s faced, Syndergaard said, “I would love to come home to New York...I love the fan base, the city, the culture, the history,” sparking hope for a reunion with the Mets, where he first gained prominence.

Syndergaard’s career trajectory shifted following his 2016 All-Star season with the Mets, where he had a 2.60 ERA and 218 strikeouts, but a series of injuries and inconsistent performance pushed him into stints with multiple teams, including the Los Angeles Angels, Philadelphia Phillies, Dodgers, and Guardians.

Despite his velocity issues, Syndergaard has managed to maintain strong control, posting a walk rate below 5% in his last season, which he hopes will appeal to teams looking for an experienced pitcher.

Now, after a year off the mound, he believes his arm is ready for a fresh start and aims to recapture some of his former power.

This offseason, Syndergaard plans to hold several throwing sessions, hoping to secure a minor league deal with a non-roster invite to spring training.

His camp is reportedly banking on a redemption arc similar to that of Luis Severino, another pitcher who found success in New York after injury setbacks.
