MLB Trade Rumors: Top 5 Names on Trade Market This Winter

Most of the attention around the major league hot stove these days is all about the big-name free agents: Juan Soto, Corbin Burnes, Alex Bregman, Blake Snell... They are all open to the highest bidder.

But teams are also knee-deep in the trade market, and we must consider some of the notable players who could be on the move this winter.

With that, insider Jon Heyman has listed his Top 5 Trade Candidates this offseason:

  1. Garrett Crochet, Chicago White Sox
Crochet, of course, has been on the trade market since early in the 2024 season, but the White Sox were foiled in their attempts to trade him when the pitcher came out and announced he would not pitch in the postseason for any team that acquired him unless he was signed to a long-term extension. Needless to say, the Pale Hose are even more motivated to trade him now.

2. Nolan Arenado, St. Louis Cardinals

Arenado is as good as they come at the hot corner, defensively. His offense has been slipping a bit in recent years, but he's still a star at 3B, and teams like the New York Yankees have been linked to him, although he loves it in St. Louis.

3. Josh Naylor, Cleveland Guardians

Naylor was a huge part of the Cleveland Guardians unexpected success in 2024, but this is a small-market team that has a history of moving players before they get too expensive.

4. Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Toronto Blue Jays

The Blue Jays will certainly try to sign Vladdy to a long-term extension first, but if it becomes apparent that it's not going to happen, they could explore the trade market for him, as he approaches his walk season.

5. Nick Castellanos, Philadelphia Phillies

Castellanos had another solid season with the Phillies, but, as Heyman has noted, the team is looking to "shake it up" this winter after their failed 2024 playoff appearance.
