MLB Trade Rumors: Rays All-Star Slugger Becoming Trade Candidate
Lowe's powerful bat and consistent production have been valuable, as he posted 21 home runs, a 123 wRC+, and 2.2 fWAR in just 107 games this past season.
However, his $10.5 million salary for 2025, now tied with Jeffrey Springs as the team’s highest, makes up a notable 12% of the Rays' estimated payroll.
While Tampa Bay exercised Lowe's option to retain him, questions around his injury history and the Rays' usual cost-conscious approach have led to speculation that the club could move him to optimize their spending.

The Rays have a track record of trading veterans as their salaries rise, and with young internal options like Junior Caminero and José Caballero waiting in the wings, Lowe’s future in Tampa Bay is not guaranteed.
Rays President of Baseball Operations Erik Neander recently noted Lowe's value as a "most valuable" second baseman but hinted at flexibility, saying Lowe could see time at first base or DH if he remains with the team.
Hitting coach Chad Mottola added, "I don’t think the industry and even our own fans understand the impact [Lowe] makes in our lineup," emphasizing Lowe’s often-underappreciated influence.
Still, with internal depth and offseason financial pressures, the Rays might feel moving Lowe could free up resources for multiple roster spots.

As one of the top power-hitting second basemen in a lean offseason market, Lowe’s team-friendly contract could be appealing to teams seeking affordable impact.
If the Rays receive competitive offers, they may be inclined to part with their All-Star slugger, especially as they explore other trade options, including Yandy Díaz and Pete Fairbanks.
