MLB Trade Rumors: Phillies Make Big Decision With Alec Bohm

The Philadelphia Phillies are shopping third baseman Alec Bohm after a season that highlighted both his potential and inconsistency. 

Bohm, 28, had a strong start to 2024, hitting .295/.348/.482 in the first half and earning his first All-Star selection. However, his production dipped sharply after the break, where he managed only a .251 average with a .681 OPS and four home runs. 

This decline extended into the playoffs, with Bohm going just 1-for-13 in the Phillies’ NLDS loss to the New York Mets, leading manager Rob Thomson to bench him in Game 2. 

The struggles have prompted the Phillies to explore the trade market, as they look to make impactful roster changes to strengthen their World Series bid.

According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, Bohm’s trade value is particularly appealing given his affordable arbitration estimate of $8.1 million and two years of team control, making him a valuable asset for teams needing a third baseman. 

"While he was a well-above-average hitter, his first-half OPS was nearly 150 points higher than in the second half, and the Phillies are looking to shake up their team after a disappointing postseason ouster," Passan reported. 

Phillies president Dave Dombrowski echoed the sentiment, praising Bohm’s growth but also acknowledging the need for more consistency, especially in clutch moments.

With limited free-agent options at third base, the Phillies are eyeing potential upgrades like Alex Bregman, though his availability is uncertain.
