MLB Trade Rumors: Garrett Crochet Would Head to Red Sox in Proposed Deal

The Garrett Crochet trade sweepstakes aren't yet in peak form, but they will be once more of the top arms come off the free agent market.

We shared with you this week the word that Crochet is "100%" getting dealt this winter after a botched attempt by the Chicago White Sox at doing so before the trade deadline back in July. That failure was due in large part to Crochet himself, who declared to anyone who would listen that he would not pitch into the playoffs without a contract extension from any new team.

Now, all bets are off, and Crochet will be on the move. He averaged nearly 12 strikeouts per nine innings, and held up for the entire season, despite never having started a game in the majors previously. His 146 innings were exactly double his entire previous MLB output combined across three past portions of seasons.

MLB Network has presented a trade proposal that would land the fast-rising hurler with the Boston Red Sox. It would look like this:

Boston Red Sox Receive:

  • Garrett Crochet

Chicago White Sox Receive:

  • 1B Triston Casas
  • C   Connor Wong
  • OF Wilyer Abreu

MLB Network analyst and former closer Dan Plesac says the White Sox will "not see the same kind of bullish market they saw in late July" for Crochet, when he was the hottest pitcher on the market at the deadline.

Nevertheless, Plesac says that this hypothetical deal would bring some nice talent to Chicago, and "you'd be getting three guys that you could insert into your lineup right away.

"The White Sox would love to pull this deal off, but I'm not sure the Red Sox would buy this."

Boston has been looking for an ace for their otherwise decent rotation, but their first goal on that front is thought to be one of the big three free agents still on the market: Corbin Burnes, Max Fried or Japanese sensation Roki Sasaki.

Plesac does admit that there will be a lot of teams with interest in Crochet.
