MLB Trade Rumors: Cincinnati Reds & Kansas City Royals Discussing Notable Trade
As the offseason starts to ramp up, teams are looking at their needs both on the free agent market and on the trade market. It sounds like the Cincinnati Reds and Kansas City Royals are talking about an old-fashioned one-for-one trade of former first-round picks and lineup regulars.

According to Ken Rosenthal and C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic, the talks involve the Reds potentially dealing second baseman Jonathan India to the Royals for starting pitcher Brady Singer.
Both players, who are entering their age-28 seasons, are under club control for two more seasons. India was the 5th overall pick in the 2018 Draft, while Singer went 18th overall in that same class.
India was the National League Rookie of the Year in 2021 and has been a team leader for the Reds ever since, even though he's been considered a prime trade candidate for the past couple of years. Last season, he posted a strong .357 on-base with a .750 OPS with a 105 OPS+ along with 15 HR and 13 stolen bases.
The Royals are desperate for a solid leadoff man, however, as they got a mere .270 on-base percentage out of the top spot in the order in 2024. But Rosenthal says that KC's top 3 starters—Seth Lugo, Cole Ragans or Michael Wacha—are off-limits in trade talks.
Singer was a rock, nevertheless, in the surprising Royals rotation, not missing a start all season, taking the mound 32 times and posting a 3.71 ERA along with his usual impressive control, with a 170:54 strikeout-to-walk ratio. It's his second very strong season in three years (3.23 ERA in 2022), though that was sandwiched around a horrible 2023 in which he posted a 5.52 ERA in 29 starts.
The report suggests that the teams are also discussing other scenarios, and that the Singer for India proposal is just one of several possibilities under consideration.
