MLB Trade Rumors: Brewers & Phillies Linked To Blockbuster Trade

The Philadelphia Phillies and Milwaukee Brewers have been linked to a blockbuster trade that could reshape both rosters heading into the 2025 MLB season.

The proposed deal, as reported by The Athletic’s Jim Bowden, centers around two-time All-Star closer Devin Williams heading to Philadelphia in exchange for All-Star third baseman Alec Bohm and a prospect.

For the Phillies, the addition of Williams, who boasts a career 1.25 ERA in high-leverage situations, would address their bullpen struggles and provide a dominant, late-inning presence.

“The Phillies need an elite, right-handed, high-leverage closer, and I think this deal makes a lot of sense for them,” Bowden remarked, noting Williams' transformative potential for Philadelphia’s pitching staff.

For Milwaukee, acquiring Bohm would fill a critical infield void, particularly with the likely departure of shortstop Willy Adames in free agency.

Bohm is coming off his first All-Star campaign in 2024, where he slashed .280/.332/.448 with 15 home runs and 97 RBIs.

His ability to provide steady offense and his team control through 2026 make him an ideal fit for the Brewers' small-market strategy.

“Bohm would solve third base and replace Adames in their lineup, allowing Joey Ortiz to play shortstop with Brice Turang remaining at second,” Bowden explained.

If finalized, the trade could ripple through both teams’ offseason plans.

The Phillies would gain flexibility to pursue top free-agent infielders like Alex Bregman or Adames to replace Bohm while bolstering their bullpen.

For the Brewers, adding Bohm and a prospect would secure a long-term infield cornerstone and enhance their lineup depth.
