MLB Trade: NY Mets Make Notable Add to Their Outfield in Deal With Tampa Bay Rays

The New York Mets have made a significant add to their outfield, acquiring primo defender Jose Siri from the Tampa Bay Rays.

In return, the Mets send reliever Eric Orze to Tampa.

With Harrison Bader off to free agency, Siri, who is projected to make just $2.3 million in 2025, will be his replacement in center field. He's under team control through the 2027 season.

Siri really flashes the leather in the outfield, with an Outs Above Average in the 99th percentile and 97th percentile in arm strength, and speed on the basepaths, where he's also in the 99th percentile. He also projects power at the plate, with 43 home runs over the last two seasons. But, just don't look at his batting average. Siri batted just .187 in over 400 at-bats, with a .620 OPS this past year, an OPS+ of just 76. He batted .222 the year before with Tampa while slugging 25 homers.

In return, the Rays get Orze, 27, who had a 2.92 ERA over 43 appearances at Triple-A Syracuse this season, but seemed overmatched in a brief major league cup of tea.
