MLB Rumors: Yankees & Free Agent World Series Champ Have "Mutual Interest"

The New York Yankees are looking to add to their pitching staff on the free agent market this offseason, and they got a close-up look at one potential target during the World Series. Now, according to baseball insider Jon Morosi, the Yanks and Walker Buehler have "mutual interest."

After missing the entire 2023 season, Buehler had a tough time in his return to the mound in the 2024 regular season for the LA Dodgers, in his first full year coming back from Tommy John surgery. He went 1-6 and posted a 5.38 ERA through the end of September.

But Buehler reminded us all (and the Yankees) of what he's capable of in the postseason, pitching 10 shutout innings through the NLCS and the World Series.

The 30-year-old two-time All-Star was 46-16 in his first five seasons in LA, with an ERA around the 3.00 mark, and an excellent WHIP hovering around 1.00. He struck out about 10 batters per nine innings.

If Buehler can get back to that on a regular basis, he could be a steal for the Yankees, or whichever team lands him on a potentially short "prove it" type deal in free agency. Last week, we reported on two other teams that seem to have Buehler in their sights as well.
