MLB Rumors: 3 Top New Destinations for Free Agent Willy Adames

With his immense power from the shortstop position, Willy Adames is gathering new suitors by the day. Shortly after the regular season, teams like the LA Dodgers and Atlanta Braves seemed like natural fits for Adames in free agency.

But now noted baseball insider Jeff Passan is sugggesting three key new teams that will be in the hunt for the slugging shortstop, all the while driving his price up.

The 29-year-old posted the best counting numbers of his career in 2024, with 32 homers, 112 RBIs and 93 runs. A dream walk year for the Milwaukee Brewers SS.

San Francisco Giants

As they do every year, the Giants will take a big swing at the biggest free agents on the board, always hoping they can land a big star. They usually come up short, but that doesn't mean they won't keep trying. Shortstop is a position of need for the Giants (as is big-time power production).

New York Mets

This seems like an odd choice, as the Mets have an MVP candidate at shortstop in Francisco Lindor. But as per Passan, it seems that Adames has now decided that he's willing to shift over to third base if the right opportunity (and bags of money) presents itself. The Mets could move Mark Vientos to first base if they lose Pete Alonso, making room for Adames at the hot corner.

New York Yankees

Same as above. The Yankees already have their shortstop of the future in Anthony Volpe. 3B, however, is open for the taking. Jazz Chisholm played out of position there after they acquired him (and fared pretty well), but he's still more suited for the outfield or second base (another area of Yankees need).
