MLB Rumors: 3 AL Teams "Monitoring" Yoan Moncada
After an injury-shortened 2024 season in which he appeared in just 12 games due to a left adductor strain, Moncada became available when the Chicago White Sox declined his $25 million option, opting instead to buy him out for $5 million.
Despite recent setbacks, Moncada’s 2019 breakout season—when he hit .315 with 25 home runs and a .915 OPS—still captures attention, and insiders, including Francys Romero, report that “more than five MLB teams are interested in Moncada,” with the Yankees, Blue Jays, and Mariners among the most active suitors.

More than five MLB teams are interested in Moncada. Among the teams that have monitored him are the Blue Jays, Yankees, and Mariners.
For the Yankees, Moncada could bring needed flexibility to the infield, especially if free-agent second baseman Gleyber Torres moves on.
With Jazz Chisholm Jr. potentially shifting to second, Moncada could slot in at third, offering reliable defense and switch-hitting abilites.
The Yankees have a history with Moncada, having aggressively scouted him as an international prospect out of Cuba in 2015.

In Toronto, Moncada’s appeal largely depends on other offseason moves, such as the Blue Jays’ pursuit of outfielder Juan Soto.
Should they add Soto, Moncada could fill an affordable infield role, with experience at both third and second base.
Meanwhile, the Mariners, in search of infield production, could look at Moncada as a potential low-cost, high-reward option to strengthen their lineup.
His recent participation in the Premier12 tournament and his past success make him an interesting option for these teams, all of whom see him as a “bounce-back” candidate capable of delivering value if he returns to form.
