MLB Free Agent Rumors: Top 3 Landing Spots For Blake Snell
Two-time Cy Young winner Blake Snell is back on the market after declining his $30 million option with the San Francisco Giants. And why wouldn't he be, after returning to his Cy guy form after returning from injury in July. He was clearly the best pitcher in baseball from that point on, registering a ridiculously minuscule 1.23 ERA in 80.2 innings, with a WHIP of less than 0.80.
He heads into free agency about to turn 32, in line for at least a three or four-year contract that could range anywhere from $100 million at the low end to over $150 million.
Here are 3 of the top landing spots for Blake Snell:
San Diego Padres
Snell was at his peak form with the Padres in 2023, winning his second Cy Young Award. He led MLB with a 2.25 ERA and a 187 ERA+ with 11.7 K/9. And in his 43 career starts at Petco Park, he's been tough to beat, with a 2.87 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 12.4 K/9.
As for the Padres, they'd love to have him back, knowing that they'll be without Joe Musgrove all of next season thanks to Tommy John surgery.
Boston Red Sox
Snell isn't one of those pitchers afraid of the big, bad American League East, having won his first Cy while toiling for the Tampa Bay Rays in 2018, posting a 1.89 ERA and a 21-5 record.
The Red Sox are badly in need of an ace to lead an otherwise promising staff. And they're apparently ready to spend this offseason.
New York Mets
Talking about teams looking to spend money this winter, you can never ignore the Mets with deep-pocketed owner Steve Cohen. And the Mets have not one, not two, but three openings in their starting staff with Luis Severino, Sean Manaea and Jose Quintana all going into free agency.
If Snell and notorious agent Scott Boras are looking to break the bank, this could be the team to do it with.
