Insider: Top 3 Non-Mets Landing Spots for Pete Alonso

Pete Alonso has been a fan favorite with the New York Mets for years now. He's been their top slugger, and in fact, sits 4th among all major leaguers in home runs over the last five years.

But as a free agent, Alonso is looking for a massive new deal, and has reportedly turned down multiple nine-figure offers from the Mets, at up to $158 million. Most projections have him coming in at somewhere up to or around the $150 million mark on a five or six-year deal.

But if the Mets are too focused on trying to woo Juan Soto that they let Alonso go, here are the top three teams that could be landing spots for Polar Bear.

Seattle Mariners

This team makes a ton of sense. A club that is desperate for a big power bat after their lineup's offense was a disaster in 2024. They also have a big hole at first base. Alonso would fill both needs.

Washington Nationals

This prediction seems to be all the rage this month, as the Nats are ready to accelerate their rebuild into contender territory. Washington is building a nice young team with some exciting players, but first base would be an area of need, as is a big power boost.

San Francisco Giants

Every winter, the Giants go out and try to land the biggest fish in the free agency waters, but they just haven't seemed to have the right bait. They'll be throwing their hook back in again this year, and they hope to reel in the big power bat of Alonso.

Honorable mention to the New York Yankees, who, if they watch Juan Soto get poached by the NY Mets, may hit back at their crosstown rivals by trying to land Alonso. It's not as if the Bronx Bombers don't need help at first base. They most certainly do. However, a certain outspoken NY radio host suggests the Yankees should go in a different direction if they're looking for a Plan B.
