Ex-GM Drops Savage Truth Bomb Why Juan Soto Won’t Be A Blue Jay
While the New York Yankees and Mets remain the favorites to battle it out for the services of top free agent Juan Soto, other teams have entered the mix as serious competitors, according to reports.
Some have even said that the disappointing Toronto Blue Jays could be a real dark horse possibility, after their big (but failed) run at Shohei Ohtani last winter.
But according to former MLB General Manager and host of The Front Office on MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM, Jim Bowden, Soto will not really consider the Blue Jays, and he dropped a savage (and some would say hilarious) truth bomb as to why he believes this:
Juan Soto's a very smart man...
I struggle buying into the fact that would be where he ends up... I know the Blue Jays will put a good proposal out there... (But) I just don't see that fit for him in Toronto, where their team is, where their farm system is.
Yes, Bowden suggests that Soto is too "smart" to buy in on a franchise that finished its 9th consecutive disappointing season under the current management regime of Mark Shapiro and Ross Atkins, plummeting to last place in the American League East with a 74-88 record, 15 games worse than the previous season.
One of their supposed building blocks, Bo Bichette, had a dreadful 2024 season and is now a trade candidate, while their other franchise star Vladimir Guerrero is still not signed to an extension as he enters his final year before becoming a free agent.
The Jays' farm system finished the 2024 season ranked a woeful 24th in the sport, so there's not much help on the way in future years.
If Soto is looking to be on a winner, he'll certainly use his "smarts", as Bowden indicated, to sign elsewhere, likely with one of the NY teams, the LA Dodgers or the Boston Red Sox, who he names as his four favorites.
