Atlanta Braves Sign Two Pitchers To Multi-Year Deals
López, who was instrumental in 2024 with a stellar 1.99 ERA across 135.2 innings, successfully transitioned from reliever to starter and quickly became a critical piece in Atlanta’s rotation.
His new deal restructures his previous extension, providing him with added job security and setting his earnings at $8 million in 2025, $14 million in 2026, and $8 million in 2027, as the Braves chose to guarantee what was initially an optional final year.
By shifting $3 million from 2025 to 2026, the Braves also gain valuable payroll flexibility.

"López exceeded all expectations," the Braves stated, emphasizing his remarkable All-Star season and successful transition to a starter role.
Alongside López, the Braves will also rely on veterans like Chris Sale and up-and-comers like Spencer Schwellenbach to support the rotation until Spencer Strider returns from elbow surgery.
With Max Fried and Charlie Morton now free agents, López’s deal ensures stability at the top of Atlanta’s rotation as they brace for potential departures.

In addition to López, the Braves secured left-hander Aaron Bummer with a restructured two-year, $13 million contract, guaranteeing him through 2026.
This and a recent trade of Jorge Soler to the Angels are part of a concerted effort to create financial room to address gaps left by free agents while keeping core pieces intact.
"Creating payroll space for 2025 was a priority this offseason," the Braves said, emphasizing their aim to reinforce the roster for another deep postseason run.
