MLB Trade Rumors: Sonny Gray Linked To Two New Teams
After an impressive 2024 season with the St. Louis Cardinals, in which the 34-year-old right-hander posted a 3.84 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, and a career-high 30.3% strikeout rate over 166.1 innings, Gray's name has surfaced in trade talks.
With the Cardinals shifting their focus toward a rebuild under new leadership, moving the veteran starter makes sense as they look to get younger and build for the future.
The #STLCards will reduce payroll in 2025, per current President of Baseball Operations John Mozeliak.

The Orioles, facing the potential loss of Cy Young candidate Corbin Burnes in free agency, view Gray as a viable replacement.
"Gray would bring a certain veteran calm to baseball's youngest World Series threat," Kline notes, pointing to Baltimore's desire to solidify their rotation with experienced talent.
Meanwhile, the Mets, expected to overhaul their rotation after key starters like Sean Manaea and Luis Severino hit free agency, also see Gray as an ideal fit alongside Kodai Senga.
