MLB Trade Rumors: Proposed Trade Sends Jordan Montgomery To California Team

Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report has proposed a mock trade that would send left-hander Jordan Montgomery from the Arizona Diamondbacks to the San Francisco Giants this offseason.

In this scenario, the Giants would receive Montgomery and cash considerations, while the Diamondbacks would acquire right-handed pitching prospect Josh Bostick, currently ranked No. 27 in San Francisco’s system.

This move aligns with Arizona’s desire to shed Montgomery’s salary, as team owner Ken Kendrick criticized his one-year, $25 million deal as a "mistake" after a disappointing 2024 season.

With Montgomery expected to accept his $22.5 million player option for 2025, the Diamondbacks are eager to move on from the commitment.

Montgomery, despite his underwhelming results in 2024, remains an intriguing option for San Francisco, particularly with ace Blake Snell likely departing in free agency.

While Montgomery’s ERA was subpar this past season, his FIP and xFIP suggest he was a bit unlucky and could be due for a rebound.

The left-hander has a proven track record at Oracle Park, where he has a 0.75 ERA over two career starts, making him a sensible addition to the Giants' rotation.

With Logan Webb, Robbie Ray, Kyle Harrison, and Jordan Hicks already part of the staff, Montgomery would provide valuable depth and experience.

For the Giants, acquiring Montgomery on a one-year deal would offer a cost-effective way to bolster the rotation under new President of Baseball Operations Buster Posey.

This move would allow the Giants to remain competitive in 2025 without sacrificing significant prospect capital, addressing a key need in their starting rotation.
