MLB Trade Rumors: Jorge Soler Linked To AL Central Team

With the offseason on the horizon, speculation is mounting that the Detroit Tigers could be a landing spot for Atlanta Braves slugger Jorge Soler.

After an unexpected postseason run in 2024, the Tigers are eager to build on their momentum, and adding a right-handed power bat has become a top priority.

“The Tigers will pursue a right-handed bat to augment a lineup that Harris believes became too left-handed,” reports Steven Adams of MLB Trade Rumors.

Soler, who has launched 153 home runs with an .812 OPS since 2019, fits that need perfectly as Detroit aims to balance its offense and improve its chances for a deeper playoff run.

Soler’s midseason acquisition gave the Braves a spark, hitting nine home runs with an .849 OPS over 49 games. However, his defensive limitations—posting -7 Outs Above Average in 46 outfield appearances—highlight that his value lies strictly as a designated hitter.

With Marcell Ozuna expected to remain Atlanta’s primary DH and Ronald Acuña Jr. potentially rotating through the role following ACL surgery, Soler’s fit on the Braves' roster is uncertain. “Jorge Soler is a DH,” Adams noted, emphasizing that his future likely lies with a team needing offensive firepower rather than defensive versatility.

Given the Tigers’ need for power and the Braves' potential desire to shed salary, Detroit has emerged as a logical trade partner.

While the $32 million owed to Soler over the next two years could complicate negotiations, a trade could benefit both sides if Atlanta agrees to cover part of the remaining contract.

For Detroit, acquiring Soler would provide a consistent power threat and balance to a left-handed-heavy lineup, positioning them for a stronger playoff push in 2025.
