MLB Trade Rumors: 3 Potential Destinations for Mariners' Logan Gilbert
If the Seattle Mariners are to find that big offensive boost they're looking for this offseason, most prognosticators are suggesting that they will have to sacrifice one member of their elite starting rotation.
One of the names being bandied about is Logan Gilbert. He elevated himself to All-Star status in 2024 for the first time, posting a major league-leading 0.887 WHIP in 208.2 innings, to go with his 3.23 ERA and tremendous 220:37 strikeout-to-walk ratio. He could certainly bring in a big haul.
Let's have a look at three leading destinations for Gilbert if the M's were to pull the trigger.
Baltimore Orioles
As is annually the case, the Orioles will be looking for elite starting pitching to add to their plethora of talented young studs around the diamond. They are likely to lose free agent starter, and ace, Corbin Burnes. Baltimore has plenty of enticing trade pieces on offense to offer the Mariners.
Boston Red Sox
The BoSox will be looking for an ace this offseason. They need an established star for the top of their rotation. Gilbert, coming off the season he just had, would certainly fit the bill. They have some nice pieces, like Tanner Houck, Brayan Bello and Kutter Crawford, but a true star is needed.
Los Angeles Dodgers
No team was hit harder by injuries to their starting staff than the Dodgers this past season. They're still trying to get by in the ongoing World Series with really only two legitimate starters. They've announced that Walker Buehler will start Game 3, but his 5.38 ERA this season coming back from Tommy John won't inspire much confidence. Yes, they hope to get other arms back for the rotation next season, but they could also lose Game 1 starter Jack Flaherty to free agency.
The Dodgers have some offensive punch they could offer Seattle in return for Gilbert.
