MLB Rumors: Top Bullpen Arms In Free Agency This Offseason

Zach Pressnell of Fansided identifies this offseason’s MLB free-agent bullpen class as “absolutely loaded,” led by four elite closers poised to transform teams' late-inning dynamics.

Tanner Scott stands out as the premier option, having dominated with the Miami Marlins and San Diego Padres in 2024.

As the top left-handed reliever, Scott is expected to command a significant contract, with Pressnell describing him as “very clearly the top southpaw bullpen arm in this free agency class.”

Joining Scott is Kenley Jansen, who remains a consistent and reliable force. Jansen’s 20+ saves in six of the last seven seasons and veteran presence make him a prime target for teams seeking bullpen stability.

Rounding out the top tier are Kirby Yates and Carlos Estévez, both coming off standout campaigns.

Yates was particularly dominant for the Texas Rangers, posting a 1.17 ERA and 33 saves, prompting Pressnell to call him “one of the most underappreciated relievers.”

Estévez also impressed, finishing 2024 with a 2.45 ERA and 26 saves between stints with the Los Angeles Angels and Philadelphia Phillies.

With the ability to step into closer roles, both Yates and Estévez are expected to draw significant interest from contenders aiming to solidify the backend of their bullpens.

Pressnell also highlights two "borderline closers" in Blake Treinen and Clay Holmes, who offer high-leverage potential.

Treinen’s versatility as a former All-Star closer with the Oakland Athletics makes him a valuable option, while Holmes, seeking a fresh start after losing his closer role with the Yankees, could regain his form in a new setting.

Though not headlining this year’s free-agent class, both Treinen and Holmes could be key additions for teams looking to strengthen their late-game options.
