MLB Rumors: Blue Jays Interested In Another Star Free Agent

The Toronto Blue Jays are reportedly making former Houston Astros All-Star Alex Bregman a key target in free agency as they look to rebound from a disappointing 2024 season. 

The Blue Jays have a glaring need at third base, and Bregman could be the long-term solution they’ve been seeking. According to ESPN’s Buster Olney, Toronto is “taking a real look” at Bregman.

“He’s a proven winner, he’s a really good third baseman, he can hit, and he would help lengthen out their lineup,” Olney said on TSN1050, speaking on the potential impact Bregman could have on both sides of the ball.

Coming off a season in which he hit .260 with 26 home runs and 75 RBIs, Bregman’s offensive production would be a welcome upgrade for a Blue Jays team that struggled to score runs in 2024, ranking 23rd in the majors. 

His two-time World Series champion experience also adds championship pedigree to a roster that missed the playoffs and finished last in the AL East. 

With the futures of core players Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette uncertain, Bregman’s arrival could offer stability in the infield. While Guerrero is reportedly open to a long-term deal in Toronto, Bichette has been mentioned in trade rumors, making the addition of a proven veteran like Bregman even more crucial.

The Blue Jays are expected to face competition for Bregman’s services, with teams like the Detroit Tigers also showing interest. 

However, Toronto’s pursuit of Bregman signals a clear intent to reshape the roster and return to contention in the AL East. 

With other stars like Juan Soto and Pete Alonso also being linked to the Blue Jays, it’s evident that GM Ross Atkins is under pressure to make big moves and build a team that can compete in 2025 and beyond.
