MLB Rumors: Alex Bregman Linked To Surprising Team
Despite a strong regular season in which they finished as MLB's best team at the All-Star break, the Phillies struggled down the stretch and were eliminated by the New York Mets in the NLDS.
According to Bleacher Report's Tim Kelly, “Managing partner John Middleton and president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski have made quite a few deals with [Scott] Boras previously, and an aggressive move can’t be ruled out after a disappointing postseason exit.”
Bregman’s proven postseason success and offensive consistency make him an intriguing option to bolster Philadelphia's veteran core.

Alex Bregman is the only free agent 3B that you can argue would be an upgrade over Alec Bohm. Bregman is almost 3yo older and just had his worst season.
Bohm .280/.332/.448/.779
Bregman .260/.315/.453/.768
In a vacuum I would prefer Bregman
Adding Bregman would have a direct impact on Alec Bohm, who earned All-Star honors in 2024 but struggled late and was benched during the NLDS.
With Bryce Harper’s shift to first base limiting positional flexibility, Bohm could be traded for bullpen or outfield help, creating a clearer path for Bregman.
“If the Phillies moved Bohm for another area of need, they would have a hole at third base,” Kelly noted, making Bregman’s signing a plausible move to shore up the infield with a more postseason-tested player.

However, Bregman’s projected contract—likely exceeding $150 million—poses a big financial commitment for a player in his early 30s.
While Bohm’s age and remaining arbitration years make him a cost-effective option, the Phillies’ history of bold spending suggests they might be willing to take the gamble.
As Nick Ziegler of Fansided put it, there’s a “non-zero chance” of Bregman joining Philadelphia, especially given the front office’s willingness to prioritize postseason success over long-term cost efficiency.
