A's Slugger Brent Rooker Heads to Seattle Mariners in Proposed Trade

The Oakland A's have played their last game as a Bay Area franchise, as they get set to move to Sacramento's Sutter Health Park for a few seasons while they wait on the expected 2028 opening of their new ballpark in Las Vegas.

But will the fans in Sacramento get to see the team's best player, Brent Rooker? The slugger had a massive season in 2024, and many are wondering if he will be trade bait for the penny-pinching A's to bring in another slew of young prospects.

With that in mind, Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report has proposed a deal that could move Rooker to a team that is desperate for a big offensive boost this offseason, the Seattle Mariners. It would look like this:

Seattle Mariners Receive:

  • Brent Rooker
Athletics Receive:
  • SS Felnin Celesten
  • LHP/RHP Jurrangelo Cijntje
  • OF Jonny Farmelo

The sleepy offense in Seattle would get a huge charge from Rooker, the outfielder/DH who posted one of the best offensive seasons in all of baseball in '24, slashing .293/.365/.562 with career bests across the board: 39 HRs, 112 RBIs, .927 OPS, 165 OPS+. He was an All-Star in 2023 when he clubbed 30 homers for the A's. The Mariners finished 25th in MLB in slugging percentage, and 22nd in OPS. And their DHs? Don't ask. Try a .205/.299/.374 slash line. Rooker would be an ideal get.

As for the A's, they continue their endless rebuild, bringing in three of Seattle's Top 10 prospects.

Celesten, just 19, was at Rookie Ball this season, and is the M's #5 prospect.

Cijntje, 21, was a first-round pick in the 2024 Draft, and was also at Rookie Ball. He is Seattle's #7 prospect.

Farmelo is at #9 on the M's list, is 20 years old, and was at A-ball this year.

All three of them would be much closer to the majors once the team makes it to Sin City.
