American League Gold Glove Finalists Named: 38-year-old Looking for 1st GG

Major League Baseball has announced its Gold Glove Finalists, and there are some new intriguing names on the list, while a relative old-timer looks to claim his very first Gold Glove.

In the American League, the list is as follows:

CATCHER

  • Freddy Fermin, Royals
  • Cal Raleigh, Mariners
  • Jake Rogers, Tigers

It's an all-new threesome behind the plate in the AL from last year's balloting.

FIRST BASE

  • Nathaniel Lowe, Rangers
  • Ryan Mountcastle, Orioles
  • Carlos Santana, Twins

For Santana, at the age of 38, it's a great story, as he's looking for his first Gold Glove, and with 14 Outs Above Average, far above his competitors, he's likely to finally nab one.

SECOND BASE

  • Andrés Giménez, Guardians
  • Nicky Lopez, White Sox
  • Marcus Semien, Rangers

Lopez injects himself into the finalists with returnees Gimenez and Semien, and is one of the lone bright spots of an all-time worst White Sox team.

THIRD BASE

  • Alex Bregman, Astros
  • Ernie Clement, Blue Jays
  • José Ramírez, Guardians

This one is intriguing, as the same three teams are represented as last year, with a surprise nomination for Ernie Clement from the Blue Jays replacing their former candidate Matt Chapman.

SHORTSTOP

  • Brayan Rocchio, Guardians
  • Anthony Volpe, Yankees
  • Bobby Witt Jr., Royals

Volpe has now been nominated in each of his first two major league seasons, while Rocchio is a first-timer.

LEFT FIELD

  • Colton Cowser, Orioles
  • Steven Kwan, Guardians
  • Alex Verdugo, Yankees

CENTER FIELD

  • Jarren Duran, Red Sox
  • Jake Meyers, Astros
  • Daulton Varsho, Blue Jays

Everyone knows that Duran broke out in a big way at the plate this season for the Red Sox, but his play in the outfield was nothing to sneeze at either as he makes his first appearance on the Finalist list.

RIGHT FIELD

  • Wilyer Abreu, Red Sox
  • Jo Adell, Angels
  • Juan Soto, Yankees

Yes, Soto's defense is yet another reason that he will bring in an astounding contract—undoubtedly the second-highest of all-time—in free agency this winter.

UTILITY
  • Willi Castro, Twins
  • Mauricio Dubón, Astros
  • Dylan Moore, Mariners

PITCHER

  • Griffin Canning, Angels
  • Seth Lugo, Royals
  • Cole Ragans, Royals
