It was a heartbreaking loss in the Wild Card Series for the Milwaukee Brewers, who now have to reassess how to regroup for 2025. Changes are coming, including the likely return of top starting pitcher Brandon Woodruff.

That means a couple of hurlers will be on their way out, among others.

Let's look at 3 players who most certainly will not be back next season.

Frankie Montas

He was acquired by the Brewers at the trade deadline from the Cincinnati Reds, and Montas simply didn't blow the doors off in Milwaukee, posting a 4.55 ERA. He certainly didn't do enough to warrant the Brew Crew exercising their share of a mutual $20 million option for 2025. He finished the season with a 4.84 ERA and a 1.37 WHIP. That's not $20M material.

Wade Miley

About to turn 38, and with a history of injury troubles that have limited him to just 34 starts in the last three seasons combined, it's highly unlikely that the Brewers will pick up their part of the mutual $12 million option that Miley owns. He pitched just seven innings for the team this season.

Willy Adames

Adames set career highs in 2024 with 32 HR, 112 RBIs and 93 runs.

The 29-year-old slugger will be the biggest star on the shortstop free agent market this winter, by far. And he'll be in line for a massive contract. He's expected to land a long-term deal in the neighborhood of $150 million. That's definitely not a neighborhood that the small market Brewers hang out in.

The Los Angeles Dodgers, though? Yes, that's their 'hood. Expect Adames to favor LA as his next destination.
