3 Leading Landing Spots for Free Agent Willy Adames

The shortstop free agent pool this offseason is nowhere close to what we've seen in recent years, with bidding wars and many All-Stars landing nine-figure contracts. This season, only one man stands at the top of the shortstop ladder on the open market, and it's Willy Adames.

Although he might not be in the same class as Trea Turner, Corey Seager and the like, Adames should have a bidding war for his services as the only shortstop in town for those in need. The incumbent Milwaukee Brewers are not likely to shell out the $150 million+ that it would take to re-sign him.

Adames blasted a career-high 32 home runs and had a personal best 112 RBIs. Not bad for your contract year.

Let's take a look at three leading landing spots for Adames:

Atlanta Braves

They seem like the leading candidate here, as noted by Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report. The Braves have yet to replace their longtime star Dansby Swanson, who left after the 2022 season in free agency for the Chicago Cubs. Shortstop Orlando Arcia had just a .625 OPS this season for the Braves. And we know that GM Alex Anthopoulos is keen to spend the team's money.

Los Angeles Dodgers

This is a team that has been rumored to bring in a shortstop for some time now. They wound up letting Mookie Betts play the position for 65 games this season, but we know he's better suited to either second base or the outfield. Never count out the Dodgers when a big-name free agent is out there.

Toronto Blue Jays

If the Jays decide to move on from Bo Bichette in a trade, which has been hotly rumored this year, Adames would be a tremendous replacement. Bichette has just one year of team control remaining, and is coming off his worst season, by far. Perhaps Toronto would be more comfortable giving that type of money to Adames than Bichette.
