3 Boston Red Sox Who Won't Be Back in 2025

The Boston Red Sox once again fell short of their goal of reaching the postseason, collapsing down the stretch.

Changes will be afoot this offseason, as additions will be needed. To make room on the payroll, many won't be returning. We have a look now at three players that will not be back in Boston in 2025.

1. Kenley Jansen

His run in Beantown ended on a sour note, as the veteran closer left the team a few days early before the end of the season, after they were officially eliminated from the playoffs. Several teammates were reportedly disappointed in his bolting the squad.

Jansen is 37 now, and despite having another decent season in Boston, he is an unrestricted free agent, and it's time for the Red Sox to move in a different, younger direction.

2. Danny Jansen

Kenley isn't the only Jansen who'll not be back next season. His batterymate Danny, who arrived at the trade deadline, is also likely headed elsewhere. The catcher hit just .188 in his time in Boston, with a .623 OPS and a 75 OPS+.

With top 3 Red Sox prospect Kyle Teel ready to move up to The Show in 2025 and take over behind the plate, there'll be no need for the team to pursue Danny Jansen in free agency.

3. Nick Pivetta

With the Red Sox expected to be busy in free agency on the starting pitcher front, names like Corbin Burnes, Blake Snell and Max Fried will be in the mix, while Pivetta, also a free agent, will be left to find himself overpaid elsewhere. The 31-year-old will be hitting unrestricted free agency for the first time, and will be looking for the highest bidder. In his four+ years in Boston, he posted a 4.29 ERA with a 1.24 WHIP. Decent... middling... But not on the level of some of the aforementioned names.
