Texas Rangers' Starter is Done For the Season

He's been in and out of the rotation as well as spending a month on the injured list recently. Now, the 10-year veteran starter is finished for the 2024 season with a foot injury.

Jon Gray has had a rollercoaster of a season, starting out the year on fire, with an ERA in the low 2.00s through April & May, but then imploding with an 8.38 ERA in June. July was a turnaround, with a 3.57 ERA, but then an injury and some brutal outings have left him bouncing between the rotation and bullpen since then.

The Rangers have dropped like a rock out of playoff contention since the All-Star Break, seeing a 5.0 game deficit turn into an insurmountable 9.5-game hill to climb.

With Max Scherzer, Andrew Heaney and Nathan Eovaldi all heading to free agency, Gray and Jacob deGrom (who didn't pitch this season) will be the only holdovers with a guaranteed job in the rotation heading into the offseason.

Gray has one season left on his 4-year, $56 million deal signed with Texas in 2022. He's gone 21-21 with a 4.16 ERA in his three seasons with the Rangers.
