Bo Bichette Makes Stunning Revelation About His Blue Jays Future

In a stunning turn of events, in a new interview with Bo Bichette, the Toronto Blue Jays shortstop has insisted that his goal is to team up with Vladimir Guerrero long-term — in Toronto.

In an interview with Shi Davidi of Sportsnet, Bichette, who has had a lot of time to think while missing the last 60+ games with a calf injury, said, in no uncertain terms that he wants to stay with the Blue Jays long-term:

“When I had time to think about what I want, basically, my ultimate goal really is to play with Vladdy (Guerrero Jr.) forever, to win a championship with him and to do that with this organization,” said Bichette. “I'm 100% committed to doing whatever it takes to accomplish those things. That's where I'm at.”

The two-time all-star will finally begin a rehab assignment on Tuesday with the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons. If there was any remaining chance at an offseason trade, at least teams (and the Jays) will be able to get a look at how Bichette has recovered.

The 26-year-old has had the worst season of his career, even aside from the injury. He's batting .222 with a .595 OPS, an OPS+ of just 69 and a mere four homers in 80 games. All of those are, by far, the worst numbers he has posted in the majors.

“A lot of times you have to hit a low place to really figure out who you are, whether that be as a player or an organization," said Bichette.

Both Bichette and Guerrero are heading into the final years of team control in 2025, and can become free agents after next season if extensions are not worked out.

But clearly, those two young stars, who came up together through the minors, are hopeful of staying together.

“We've talked since we were 18 years old in low-A, we've looked at each other every single year and told each other that we want to be together forever and win as many championships as we can,” said Bichette. “From my point of view, what I'm focused on now is how do we get back to who we are here.”
