Oakland A's Icon Rickey Henderson Has Classic "Rickey" Reaction To A's Leaving Oakland

Rickey's gonna be Rickey. As in Rickey Henderson, baseball's all-time stolen base king and Oakland A's legend. There is no player in the history of the franchise that epitomized the history of the club more than Rickey. So naturally, he was on hand Wednesday night when they played the final game in Oakland before next season's move out of town.

And in classic Rickey style, when he was asked if he was sad about the A's moving out of Oakland, he replied:

I can’t be sad. I have too much money, and I did too much here, all these great things here. I’m more happy than sad. Maybe later it will hit you when it’s all said and done. But, honestly, today I’m going to have fun.

Upon further reflection, however, even Rickey was able to find a dark cloud in the impending departure of the Athletics from the Bay Area, per Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle.

“The sad part about it is all these people that work here that I saw for decades,” Henderson said. “Some of them, working here is what enables them to get out of bed to go do something. I’m sad for them.”

In addition, he admits that he doesn't believe MLB will ever bring a team back to Oakland.

"Basically, baseball won't get (a team) here ever again, I'm telling you, I talked to the commissioner. He said all along they won't come out here, I don't care who buys the team or whatever happens".

Henderson finished his incredible 25-year career with a record 1,406 stolen bases, 867 of them in Oakland.

His speech mid-game upon breaking the record is one of the most memorable player speeches in baseball history.
