MLB Trade Rumors: Corbin Burnes Linked To Rival Team This Offseason
The New York Yankees are emerging as a formidable contender to sign Corbin Burnes this offseason.
Burnes, who was acquired by the Baltimore Orioles in a blockbuster trade from the Milwaukee Brewers, has been solid for them, anchoring their rotation with a 3.19 ERA and 154 strikeouts over 28 starts.
As he approaches free agency, Burnes is on track for another top-10 finish in Cy Young voting, solidifying his status as one of the game's elite pitchers.
However, the Yankees, known for their financial clout, are reportedly eyeing Burnes as a key addition to their rotation, potentially alongside Gerrit Cole or as a replacement if Cole exercises his opt-out clause.
I didn’t realize Corbin Burnes leaving the Orioles in free agency was such a foregone conclusion:

The Yankees' offseason priorities appear to be centered on securing superstar Juan Soto, but there is increasing chatter that they may also target Burnes to further bolster their starting rotation.
If Cole opts out, New York has the option to extend his contract by an additional year at $36 million, but even if Cole stays, the Yankees have the financial muscle to pursue both Burnes and Soto.
Such moves would not only strengthen their roster but also directly challenge the Orioles' recent rise, presenting a significant obstacle to Baltimore's aspirations in the division.

For the Orioles, losing Burnes to the Yankees would be a devastating blow, weakening their rotation while simultaneously strengthening their biggest rival.
Baltimore's new ownership faces a crucial decision: engage in aggressive negotiations to retain Burnes or risk seeing him dominate from the mound in Yankees pinstripes next season.
