MLB Rumors: Kenley Jansen Speaks On Future In MLB & With Red Sox

Kenley Jansen recently reflected on his future in Major League Baseball as he approaches free agency this winter, emphasizing his desire to remain with a contending team.

In an interview with MassLive’s Chris Cotillo, Jansen made it clear that winning and competing for championships will be his top priority as he looks at his options.

After missing the postseason for the first time in over a decade in 2023 and facing a similar scenario with the Red Sox in 2024, Jansen expressed his disappointment but reaffirmed his commitment to continue pitching, with no plans to retire before the age of 40.

Despite Boston’s struggles, Jansen praised his time with the Red Sox, highlighting the potential of young players like Jarren Duran, Ceddanne Rafaela, and Connor Wong.

While he acknowledged his enjoyment playing for the team and the fanbase, Jansen’s focus remains on winning, and he hinted that his future with the Red Sox may be uncertain unless the team can show they are ready to compete at a high level.

His personal performance in 2024, including a 3.48 ERA and 26 saves in 30 opportunities, has kept him as one of the league's top closers, making him a valuable asset for teams with championship aspirations.

The New York Yankees, who made a serious attempt to sign Jansen before he joined Boston, are expected to show interest again, especially with closer Clay Holmes set to hit free agency.

Jansen also mentioned the possibility of returning to the Los Angeles Dodgers, a team with which he had significant postseason success.
