Milwaukee Brewers DFA Pitcher With 1.74 ERA

The Milwaukee Brewers have designated right-handed reliever Enoli Paredes for assignment while recalling fellow right-hander Kevin Herget from Triple-A Nashville.

Paredes, 28, was signed to a minor league deal in the offseason and made an immediate impact in Triple-A, posting a stellar 1.31 ERA with a 41.5% strikeout rate in 18 appearances.

Upon being promoted to the big leagues, he maintained a strong 1.74 ERA across 20.2 innings in 17 appearances.

However, his underlying metrics painted a less promising picture, with a modest 16.7% strikeout rate and an 11.9% walk rate, well below league averages.

Paredes spent over two months on the injured list due to a right forearm issue, returning to pitch just four innings in September, where he allowed two earned runs.

Although his ERA remained solid, the Brewers appeared concerned about his long-term consistency, particularly with his control issues.

Paredes' ground ball rate of 44.8% is close to the league average, but his struggles with command, combined with his previous career walk rate of 19.7% during his time with the Houston Astros, likely contributed to the Brewers' decision.

With Paredes out of minor league options and no longer postseason-eligible for any claiming team, Milwaukee opted to clear his roster spot.

To fill the void, the Brewers recalled Kevin Herget, a reliable veteran who posted a 2.27 ERA in 38 Triple-A appearances this season.

Herget has also impressed in limited major league action, compiling a 2.08 ERA over five games for Milwaukee this year.

Manager Pat Murphy noted the need for fresh arms to manage bullpen usage during the stretch run, and Herget's consistency in both the minors and majors made him an ideal candidate for the call-up.
