Marlins Claim 2 Players Off Waivers; DFA 3 More

The Miami Marlins made plenty of roster moves recently, claiming right-handers Lake Bachar from the San Diego Padres and left-hander Anthony Veneziano from the Kansas City Royals.

Both pitchers bring potential to Miami’s staff, with Veneziano, previously ranked as the Royals’ #5 prospect, having shown promise in 2023 despite struggling this season with a 4.80 ERA in Triple-A.

Bachar, coming off Tommy John surgery, has rebounded well, posting a 3.89 ERA and a strong 27.4% strikeout rate in the Pacific Coast League, making him an intriguing addition as the Marlins continue their playoff push.

To accommodate these claims, the Marlins designated catcher Alí Sánchez, left-hander Kent Emanuel, and right-hander Emmanuel Ramírez for assignment.

Sánchez, who appeared in 31 games, struggled at the plate with a .167/.211/.190 slash line.

Emanuel, who has been designated multiple times this season, posted a 6.62 ERA in limited major league action, while Ramírez, despite a 6.97 ERA over 15 appearances, showed flashes of promise with a 22.8% strikeout rate and a more favorable 3.85 SIERA.
