Kenley Jansen Done With Red Sox?

Has Kenley Jansen pitched his final game for the Boston Red Sox? The 37-year-old closer pitched a scoreless ninth inning on Sunday in Game 1 of the BoSox's double-header, and afterwards, per beat writer Chris Cotillo, "insinuated" it was his last appearance of the year — which could quite likely translate to his last appearance with the Red Sox.

Manager Alex Cora then confirmed that Jansen has been shut down for the final week of the regular season with a sore shoulder. He then becomes an unrestricted free agent this offseason. Jansen is wrapping up a two-year, $16 million contract and it's unlikely the Red Sox would be bringing him back.

That's not to say that Jansen didn't have a good run in Boston.

In his 99.1 innings, he posted 56 saves (in 64 chances), a 3.44 ERA, a 1.16 WHIP and a 114:37 strikeout-to-walk ratio, which translates to 10.3 K/9.

Jansen had an NL-leading 41 saves the year before that in Atlanta, after spending the first 12 years of his career with the Los Angeles Dodgers, where he accumulated the vast majority of his 447 career saves. That total is tops amongst all active pitchers, and is 4th all-time.
